commaFAY JACKSON, FOUNDER OF VISION IN MIND is the founder of VISION IN MIND and the Inaugural Deputy Commissioner for the New South Mental Health Commissioner. She is a leading consultant and recipient of multiple awards in:

  • Community and workplace mental health and wellbeing
  • Systemic advocacy
  • Education and training
  • Peer Work and the Lived Experience Workforce
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Reframing trauma
  • Suicide prevention

She is the General Manager of Inclusion at Flourish Australia where she conceived of and led the award winning “Why not A Peer Worker?” Strategy for Flourish Australia. She has worked as the Director of Consumer, Carer and Community Affairs with the South East Sydney & Illawarra Area Health (SESIAH) Mental Health Service. She is the recipient of the Inaugural Mental Health First Aid Champions Award and recipient of the National Meritorious Service to Community Medal which was awarded to her for her voluntary work in mental health for Rotary.

She began her career in mental health as the first lived experience speaker for Beyondblue, then as a Peer Worker and Manager of Peer Workforce for the SESIAH.

Fay has been instrumental in the growth of the Lived Experience and Peer Workforces in Australia and has published papers on Peer Work in international journals. She co-wrote and co-edited the Peer Work in Australia reference book published in 2018 via a collaboration through Flourish Australia and Mind Australia. She is also lead writer on a chapter about Peer Work in a soon to be published book about rural and remote mental health.

Fays’ work in mental health and wellbeing with workplaces has resulted in international awards. Some of these included Gold and Silver TheMHS awards for the Australian Federal Family Law Courts, Flourish Australia and Caterpillar Mining.

She has been made a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow for her work in educating the community about mental health, wellbeing and lived experience. She has been nominated for the NSW Woman of the Year Award.

She is one of the few people in the world who who have been awarded the status of Principal Master Trainer in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in the Adult Standard, Youth, Intellectual Disability and Ageing versions. MHFA is an internationally certified course and qualifies for CPD points in many industries and professions.

She is also a member of the Mad Pride movement and is proud to be a person constructively utilising her lived experience of surviving trauma, mental health issues and recovery. Please see our testimonials.
